How To Manage Working Your 9-to-5 And Your Business

Today I’m going to show you how to perfectly manage your full-time job, and your business until it’s grown enough for you to quit your 9-to-5.

Time Management is one of the core skills every female entrepreneur needs, especially when you also have a full-time job and you’re running your new business on the side.

The good news is that learning how to properly manage your time without either your 9-to-5 or your new business suffering is very much possible.

Don’t worry, many female entrepreneurs started out doing this exact same thing before quitting their full-time job to focus on their business.

There are 2 things to keep in mind as you navigate working a job and your business at the same time:

The first step is to understand is that you would technically be working two jobs.

Say for example you work 8-9 hours on your full-time job, you’ll also have to factor in the number of hours per day or per week that you’ll spend working on your business.

Say you work 40 hours per week on your full-time job, and you can afford to spend 20-25 hours per week on your business. This means you will be working a total of 60-65 hours per week.

Given this number, it is very important to not just manage your time but also your schedule, resources, and day-to-day tasks.

The second step is to understand that you might have to cut into your sleep time a bit.

To work 60-65 hours a week, a compromise must be done, and this will typically mean cutting into your sleep time, or the time you spend with your loved ones. It really cannot be helped.

When you factor in time spent commuting, watching movies, eating, doing chores, being on social media chatting with friends, etc. You’ll realize that to give your 100% to both jobs, and maintain a semi-active social life, you will have to compromise on your sleep time.

So now that we’ve gotten the two facts out of the way, how do you manage your time to be able to properly work on your full-time jobs and your new business?

  1. Invest in a project management and time tracking tool: Use this to plan your weekly tasks in advance, and to track how long you spend on each task, that way you make the most of your 20-25 work hours.
  2. In your project management tool plan your week in advance, by making a list of all the tasks you need to do for your business e.g social media posts, sales calls, sending LinkedIn connection requests, record videos, edit podcast episodes, sending out email newsletters, etc.
  3. For each day highlight the most important tasks that MUST be done and cannot be pushed to a later date
  4. Do at least 3 of the highlighted tasks per day
  5. Depending on how your 20-25 hours is structured you might need to wake up an hour or two before you normally do to work on 1-2 of these tasks
  6. Complete the remaining task when you’re back from your full-time job and have rested.

And that, my lovely friend, is how to realistically manage your full-time job and your business at the same time.
